This book made me more sure about my decision. I hate trying to play God. But also won't let my dog suffer.
I agree with the author, it's the quality of the dogs life not quantity!
I don't think this book should be used as a basis for whether or not you should euthanize your dog.I read it the day after I euthanized my 14 year old dog, even though I was sure I did the right thing.I did get one useful bit of information that helped me. She said to ask yourself if other people around you think your dog may be suffering.The day before I had her put down I told my husband I thought she might need to go outside but I wanted to wait until after dark so the neighbors wouldn't see her having a seizure.Well she had one in the driveway and her body was kind of twisted and I tried to straighten her out while she was laying in the gravel.I told her I was going to help her.She was having multiple grand mal seizures a day even though she was taking medication.It wasn't working... anyway she mentioned in the book that seizures don't bother them and sometimes they are "wrongfully" euthanized for having seizures.Wrongfully is my word not hers.She also says it is better if they die naturally. Well duh
Hope and her husband Erik who run the non-profit Little Old Dog Sanctuary are experts in the care and end of life decisions for old pooches. Their advice based on extensive experience is invaluable. Buy all their books and help support a most worthy cause and gain insights on what it really means to commit to owning a dog. A great read. Look for their other titles on . You can't go wrong.
I choose this rating because I love being in the company of older Dogs and with that responsibility I must be the one to make that heartbreaking decision. I live alone and have no one to help me. This book made me feel good or at least better about my decision concerning this subject I have an 8year old corgi who is about to go. This was a good read for me
